Meet or exceed all your industrial safety standards

  • Measure to World Meteorological Organization (WMO) standards
  • Highly-accurate sensors for the following physical properties:
    • Wind speed & direction
    • Temperature & humidity
  • Sensors feature industrial grade electrical protection against:
    • High-voltage high-speed transients
    • Lightning protection
    • EMI, ESD & Surge protection
    • Ultra-low power sensors for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC)

Inherently intrinsically safe sensors feature:

  • T4 135 °C max component temperature compliance to requirements for use in dangerous volatile environments (Local rules and regulations may require local certification)
  • Industrial standards RS-485 MODBUS RTU and ASCII connectivity
  • PLC and SCADA compatibility of individual sensors

Meteorological data loggers ProLogGSM and EasyLogGSM feature:

  • PLC and SCADA data compatibility
  • Industrial standards RS-232 MODBUS RTU interface

Sensor intrinsic safety compliance

Regulations limits for intrinsically safe operation are:

  • sensors that operate on voltage less than 29 V and less 300 mA current consumption which is set by capacitance and inductance of a 400 meter cable length
  • sensors with power consumption less than 1.3 W to easily meet component T4 temperature classification

MeteoWind 2 anemometer with wind direction vane MEETS intrinsic safety requirements.

  • Since MeteoWind 2 operates up to 5 V-25 V and 4.5 mA its power output is only 0.1125 W which meets the above requirements
  • Inrush protection limiting inrush current to 50 mA for a maximum instantaneous power output of 0.125 W
  • Its maximum component capacitance is 22 μF
  • Max component temperature meets T4  135 °C requirements

Build in safety mechanisms:

  • Overvoltage/overcurrent protection: High-speed high-voltage surge protector and a 26 V limiter send voltage transients higher than 26 V to ground. Current transients are limited to a max instantaneous limit of 70 mA to keep the sensor safe and operational.
  • Reverse polarity protection.
  • Ground-loop protection is achieved by isolating the electrical components from the body casing so as to eliminate any possibility of ground potential differences between mounted device and source of power and prevent unwanted current flow. This way any ESD accumulated on the device is safely grounded locally.
  • Explosion proof anemometer body is anodized aluminum with maximum opening size to the outside environment of 0.2 mm.
  • MeteoWind 2 meets the requirements for intrinsically safe operation. It was from the onset designed to intrisical safety requirements.

MeteoTemp RH+T and MeteoTemp RH+T+PRESSURE temperature, humidity, dew point, frost point and barometric pressure sensors MEET intrinsic safety requirements.

  • Since MeteoTemp operates up to 5 V-15 V and 800 μA, its power output is only 0.02 W which meets the above requirements
  • Maximum inrush current 70 mA for a maximum instantaneous power output of 5 W
  • Its maximum component capacitance is 22 μF
  • Max component temperature meets T4  135 °C requirements

Build in safety mechanisms:

  • Overvoltage/overcurrent protection: High-speed high-voltage surge protector and a 26 V limiter send voltage transients higher than 26 V to ground. Current transients are limited to a max instantaneous limit of 70 mA to keep the sensor safe and operational.
  • Reverse polarity protection.
  • Ground-loop protection is achieved by isolating the electrical components with a non-conductive sensor body made of acetal. Acetal is an insulator with surface resistivity of 10^16 Ω (Ohm) and may not be suitable for certain ESD high ignition risk environments.
  • MeteoTemp is constructed of non-conducting PTFE sensor filter cap with Acetal body. Please consult your ESD requirements.
  • MeteoTemp electronics meet the requirements for intrinsically safe operation.

International agencies and certification bodies

Key approval agencies with international profiles are UL in the United States, CSA in Canada, and ATEX and IECEx in Europe. Local agencies — such as NEPSI or INMETRO — typically accept test reports from these four major agencies and use the same standards, often under official cross-certification agreements.
